Florida's Annual Employment Report for 2011

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, Florida’s unemployment rate decreased slightly in December of 2011 to 9.9% from 10% in the previous month. During 2011, the Florida unemployment rate declined from 12% in December of 2010 to 9.9%. This change represents an over-the-year decrease of 2.1 percentage points. The number of non-farm workers on payroll increased by 113,900 during the year while the net employment gain in Florida between January and December 2011 was 127,500.

The national jobless rate has also decreased during 2011, falling from 9.4% in December of 2010 to 8.5% in December of 2011. During the same period the South Atlantic region’s unemployment rate has fallen from 9.9% to 8.9%. Although these unemployment estimates are trending lower, Florida’s current jobless rate of 9.9% remains higher than the national average of 8.3%.
